Interactive Education: West Germany's Recovery

Timeline: 2023

The vision

This website came out of a school assignment, but we treated it more like a product than a presentation. The idea was to explain the recovery of West Germany after World War II in a way that felt easier to explore than a long document or slide deck.

The structure was intentionally visual. We used sections, supporting imagery, videos, and modal overlays so the content could open up gradually instead of landing all at once. That helped keep the material more approachable without flattening it into something overly simplified.

I liked this project because it sat somewhere between content work and interface work. It was not just about building components. It was also about deciding how people should move through information and where interaction could actually help, which is still something I enjoy about product work now.

Strategic goals

  1. 01

    Make the topic more engaging

Turn a school assignment into something more interactive than a static presentation or document.

  2. 02

    Keep the content understandable

Present historical material in smaller, more digestible parts without losing context.

The challenge

The subject matter involved a lot of information, so the main challenge was keeping the site interactive without making it feel cluttered.

Resolution

Splitting the material into modular sections and modal overlays helped keep the pace manageable while still giving space for detail.
